The time was September, 1961, when a lone young African American woman walked into a freshman dormitory at Texas Woman's University. The action marked the beginning of a continuous strand of community enabling five others to follow. From that first lone and tentative step of Alsenia Dowells, we dedicate this year to celebrate the legacy and achievements of this group of TWU Pioneers; we strive to connect and reconnect those who continue to follow the mission of Texas Woman's University to provide education for all; and we look to the future as we celebrate the fifty-year anniversary of desegregation at TWU.TWUBA

In conjunction with Black History Month 2012 the Blagg-Huey Library on the Denton campus of TWU is proud to present Celebrating Black History Month, an exhibit currently on display in the lobby of the library's first floor.
Curated by Woman's Collection Staff, this informative and historical exhibit features the Great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance, the scholars of African American history and role models past and present.
Included are photographs, books, artifacts and clothing which illustrate the stories of women and men who shaped a movement, changed our communities--and transformed history.
Celebrating Black History Month is available for viewing during regular library hours through February 27th. It is free and open to the public.
